Data modeler/SQL Developer

Location: Ann Arbor, MI (need only local candidates)

Duration: 12 months

 

We are looking for the person who is the expert in relational database and data modeling. Experience in designing data model and implementing Oracle package/functions/procedures are required.  Experience in SQL server programming is preferred.

 

 

Job Function/Duties:

 

The Physician Peer Review Program is sponsored by the Office of Clinical Affairs and began in 2004. The program supports

On-going Professional Practice Evaluation required by The Joint Commission and is used at UMHS as a means to assess

professional competency and improve quality of care. Approximately 170 measures have been developed for 26 clinical

services. Measurement results by individual physician and by clinical service are delivered each fiscal quarter. All 170

measures will be affected by the Mi-Chart changes to fundamental data sources for revenue cycle, ADT, scheduling, and

patient management. A portion will be affected by changes to the ED and ambulatory systems. These programs must be

altered to accommodate the new data structures.

As one of our Senior Clinical Information Reporting database/software developers, you will partner with data analysts to

convert data sources for the Mi-Chart implementation. In the process, you will perform these functions:

- Understand the migration impact on these 170 measures from the Mi-Chart implementation.

- Build up the data model to integrate data from the new/revised disparate clinical and administrative data sources

- Develop, test and implement Oracle packages/functions for the complex algorithms per new/revised data sources,

while conforming to the existing teams coding and documentation standards

- Revise/re-create detailed analytical datasets that support these 170 measures to accommodate new/revised data

sources to continue to produce these 170 measures

- Revise existing text string searches of electronic medical records as needed per new/revised data sources

- Assist existing staff with initial production run of converted measures

 

 

Department Qualifications

Required:

-At least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field

-5+ years of experience and proficient in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL (preferred) or similar such as Microsoft SQL Server and T SQL,

including procedures, functions, triggers, packages

-5+ years of experience in a software developer and/or database developer role

-Experience developing new database schema, including indexes and constraints

-Experience in large healthcare databases

-Experience developing a work plan for your own work

-Experience documenting your work clearly

-Experience tuning SOL queries and databases for optimum performance

-Ability to analyze and solve complex database problems

-Demonstrated ability to work effectively with management, team members and users

 

Preferred:

-Some knowledge of SAS and SAS proc sql

-Data warehouse and/or data mart experience

-Some DBA experience, Oracle preferred

-Experience with testing beyond unit testing

-Excellent oral and written English skills

-Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues from other departments

-Experience in an organized environment where projects are planned and managed, and where a development process/methodology is

followed
