Sr. System Admin
Location: Tallahassee, IL
Duration: Long Term
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position has the responsibility of maintaining, monitoring and managing the existing Wintel Server and Production Applications operational infrastructure with a focus on Enterprise Applications (EA). This position works under limited supervision with substantial latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment with regard to resolving technical problems and will assume the technical lead in working on technical projects. This position will also serve as a lead for executing disaster recovery fail over activities that the Production Applications Management team is responsible for completing.
Additionally, these activities and responsibilities include installing, configuring and troubleshooting enterprise middleware such as Weblogic, Tomcat and Websphere. The responsibilities of this position will also include creating system and enterprise application documentation; daily system and application administration along with assisting staff and users in problem resolution relating to enterprise applications, enterprise middleware and database communication issues. This position also participates in the design, planning and execution of infrastructure needed to support new enterprise applications and middleware and any associated technologies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Provide lead support for escalated issues to the development staff; troubleshoots problems, answers enterprise applications and enterprise middleware questions, and provides technical assistance for issues relating to enterprise applications, Windows Operating Systems and enterprise middleware
· Install, configure and troubleshoot enterprise middleware
· Install, configure and troubleshoot enterprise applications
· Create documentation of server systems, operational procedures, enterprise application deployment, and enterprise middleware installations and production configurations
· Configures and troubleshoots complex networking issues in a multi-homed server environment
· Work independently on IT projects and all areas of enterprise application and middleware support
· Provide one-on-one technical training with team members and other users, as needed
· Maintain a working knowledge of all enterprise architecture standards
· Maintain asset records
· Document problem resolutions into the appropriate systems
· Troubleshoot, analyzes and resolves system and Enterprise server, middleware and application problems
· Plan, organize and coordinate work assignments and prioritizes workload
· Provide customer service via telephone and interpersonal contact
· Rapidly deploys fixes to systems and Enterprise applications and middleware in response to newly identified stability and security threats
· Participate in software license tracking and purchasing
· Independently makes technical recommendations concerning technical projects, production application upgrades other needed technical requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 Server Operating Systems
· Knowledge of Microsoft Clustering Services and other Highly available server methodologies
· Knowledge of daily Windows server administration, including system stability, integrity, and troubleshooting
· Proficient in installing, configuring and troubleshooting enterprise applications and middleware
· Proficient in backup integrity and recovery coordination along with disaster preparedness planning
· Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN protocols including DHCP, DNS, WINS and TCP/IP applied in an enterprise environment utilized by servers in a multi-homed configuration
· Advanced knowledge of networking including routing, subnetting and static/persistent routes
· Excellent interpersonal skills and communication, both verbal and written
· Self motivated, with the ability to work in both a team environment and individually
· Knowledge of the relevant computer systems, applications and equipment to provide customer support of technical terminology, concepts and applications
· Ability to understand and comply to the relevant department and/or corporate policies, procedures and guidelines as they pertain to customer support
· Knowledge of relevant commonly-used concepts, best practices, and procedures
· Knowledge of local and remote computer system diagnostic tools
· Proficient with current versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
· Ability to work “on-call” and after normal working hours
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· BA/BS in related field OR equivalent years in college education and relevant experience such as enterprise server administration
· 4 or more years experience in systems administration OR MCSE/MCIPT certified and 3 years of relevant experience
· 2 or more years experience as a technical lead of an IT project team to include experience in supporting enterprise class application and middleware technologies
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Knowledge and understanding of ITIL
· Insurance Industry experience
· Current certification as; or working towards certification as:
o MCP
o MCSA/MCSE
o MCITP
