Senior Java Architect

Location – Houston, TX

Duration - 3 months to start – with extensions every 3 months up to 1 ½ yrs, subject to individual performance etc.

Start Date - 7/23 (or sooner - depending on candidate availability)

Some travel to San Diego, CA may be required

 

 

Senior Java Architect

Position Summary: Senior Java Architect needed to lead a small team of developers on a client facing engagement. 

The individual will require business level communication skills and expert design/development and management skills. The Senior Java Architect will need to work with the client's lead Business Analyst to map out a solution based on client requirements and business rules.  The Senior Java Architect is responsible for architecting the overall solution, developing complex modules, mentoring junior Java developers and proposing alternatives when road blocks occur.  The Senior Java Architect must have experience working in an Agile environment.

 

Essential Functions:

-A mix of business architect, solution architect and development manager skills to perform the day to day functions of the position.

-Actively participate in brainstorm sessions with the customer. Understand the business problem/requirements clearly; come up with alternative solutions in accordance with enterprise architecture principles and best practices with pros & cons on the spot; collaborate and reach consensus on a pragmatic solution design with the customer balancing the customer needs with the quality and fiscal prudence during those sessions.

-Serve as a technical mentor, user experience design master, and best practice advisor for the customer and application development groups.

-Remove technical road blocks for team.

-Facilitate and lead daily product backlog meetings with customers

-10 years development experience; 5 years with Java Architecture

 

Qualifications/Required Skills:

Development Team Management Experience

• Experience with enterprise software development preferred

• Certification in Java preferred

• Hands-on experience utilizing Java

• Knowledge of client-side technologies, including AJAX, JQuery, Javascript and HTML/CSS

• Knowledge of Click framework and velocity templates a plus

• Knowledge of server-side technologies including Servlets and JSON

• Knowledge of unit-testing frameworks (such as JUnit)

• Experience with Eclipse or other IDE

• Knowledge of Object-oriented Programming and Design Patterns

• Nice to have: Knowledge of Source Control systems (such as SVN or Perforce)

•Candidate must have strong structured methodology experience.

•Strong Object Oriented Design experience.

•Oracle 10i and Oracle Lite

•Experience with Tomcat, OC4J and Weblogic

•Leadership, Communication,Consultative Skills

•Agile Methodology Experience - a big plus

•Automobile Insurance Claims experience a big plus
