 Tech - Perl Development, XML, XSLT

Soft - Problem Solver, Multi tasker, excellent comm skills

Notes : MAINFRAME environments are not helpful!

Must Have :

Perl

XML as a datasource

Windows environment

 

Plus :

XSLT

xPression (similar to Thunderhead and Docustream)

Day to Day :

This candidate will be part of a fast paced environment, supporting 7 different insurance companies. They basically take the data from the policy and billing teams and turn it into Insurance pamphlets that get mailed out. 75% of the day will be developing the specific insurance documents in xPression. The other 25% will be supporting and running batch jobs of their documents

Sr. Perl Developer

Looking for a team oriented individual to work collaboratively with members of the Publishing team in a fast-paced, challenging environment to deliver print solutions for a variety of business document needs. 

 

Job Requirements and responsibilities:

·     Design, code, test and implement Perl programs and modules that will process input XML extract files, streamline data according to established and evolving business rules

·     Develop clean, high-quality and reusable code based on programming standards.

·     Develop best practices to ensure coding efficiency and quality

·     Analyze/resolve coding issues in a timely and accurate manner.

·     Review requirements documents and provide feedback on any gaps, areas of concern or challenges between the requirement and the software's current abilities, as well as provide a reasonable estimate on when work on the proposed change would be completed

·     Migrate changes to production and validate that the changes were successfully moved

·     Troubleshoot issues as they arise, either in the form of Work Orders, Defects or things found during nightly batch runs, in order to keep the output running smoothly

·     Monitor the status of nightly batch runs as well as QA batch cycles

·     Acquire appropriate data for use either to debug an issue, or to test changes to documents currently being worked on

·     Notify all interested parties of any special requests such as submitting run sheets to our Operations or Production Control group, in order to complete batch cycles, or to announce when a batch cycle is running unusually long and will miss an SLA

·     Keep up to date with latest trends in application development techniques and technologies

 

Skills/ Knowledge/Education:

Required:

·     7+ years of IT experience

·     4+ years of Experience with Perl Development

·     Advanced knowledge of Perl:  Regular Expressions; ActivePerl 5+; Perl best practices; and usage of CPAN modules

·     Experience working with XML

·     Bachelors degree or higher

·     Excellent verbal and written communications skills

·     Strong problem solving skills

·     Good Multi-Tasking skills

 

Nice to Have:

·     Familiarity with XSLT 1.0, XSLT 2.0 and XSD for transforming techniques

·     Familiarity with Databases such as MS SQL Server and IBM DB2

·     Familiarity with a document production tool such as Autograph (DLS), xPression, Thunderhead, Exstream, or a similar tool

·     Insurance Industry Experience desired
