Role: Linux System Administrator
Location: Los Angeles, CA.
5-8 years experience in a Systems Administration position with relevant technologies.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or relevant, related and equivalent professional experience - Preferred
Detailed working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows and UNIX Operating System including Linux and Solaris.
Expert knowledge of Linux, including security and hardening techniques.
Expert knowledge of standard networking protocols and services: TCPIP, POP, IMAP, SMTP, DNS, HTTP, NTP, NNTP/NNRP, FTP, SSH, LDAP, RADIUS, TACACS.
Detailed working knowledge of current and emerging technologies including but not limited to: PHP, J2EE, web servers, web services, SSL, Drupal, MySQL.
Skill in writing scripts that are easily maintainable, meets user and department specifications, and is completed by scheduled deadlines.
Skill in the design of scalable, secure, high availability systems, integrating open source and commercial software.
Skill in performing systems testing, including security scans and analysis, user acceptance tests, stress tests, benchmark tests, and regression tests. Ability to carry out the testing process in a clear, complete, technically sound, and well documented manner.
Ability to monitor the production environment, initiate maintenance requests and respond to server production problems quickly, accurately, independently and with adequate follow up.
Ability to independently use systems resources (documents, manuals, publications, vendors, user groups) to maintain current knowledge of the information systems profession.
Ability to independently prepare documents that are clearly written, well organized, well structured, accurate, complete, cover all relevant issues, and are professional in appearance.
Ability to provide users and staff with information that is accurate, sound, timely, and well documented.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members and users
Ability to independently perform functional analysis and systems research that is thorough, accurate, practical, correctly considers technical constraints, meets user requirements, and is consistent with the department planning document.
Ability to recognize, analyze and correct system security problems.
Ability to independently test new hardware and software to determine its strengths, weaknesses, potential and applicability to the department.
Ability to independently prioritize tasks and prepare project plans and schedules with only general guidelines from management. Skill in estimating time and effort required for software tasks and projects.
Working knowledge of disaster recovery and backup strategies, policies, and procedures.
Ability to detect, analyze and correct system security problems and document procedures to prevent problems in the future.
