Requirement:

Job Title :  Unix Developer

Interview: F2F

Duties:

  • Responsible for LINUX System Security for production and test environment;
  • Responsible for User administration and super user privileges;
  • Provide technical assistance to agency users and other agency personnel throughout the Commonwealth on technical, professional and/or administrative matters;
  • Provide support for LINUX/Network related problems;
  • Identify and successfully troubleshoot problems;
  • Isolate/resolve issues regarding configuration and connectivity;
  • Perform system audits of LINUX machines;
  • Monitor capacity;
  • Improve security, performance, backup strategies and administration;
  • Identify tasks which require automation and automate them;
  • Responsible for midrange software installations/upgrades;
  • Create user and technical documentation including startup and shutdown, backup and recovery and maintenance upgrades;
  • Evaluate and/or recommend hardware and software purchases;
  • Provide end user training as required;
  • Provides off-hours support for LINUX related issues.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Provide support for common and advanced system administration responsibilities,
    including backup and restore, security and TCP/IP;
  • Build and implement new hardware configurations with minimal supervision;
  • Familiar with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts;
  • Analyze and measure system performance, capacity and availability;
  • Support Red Hat Linux Servers running Production Business Applications (not just DNS,
    Utility Servers etc);
  • Experience with enterprise version of Linux such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux.  Ability to automate repetitive tasks using shell scripts (sh and ksh);
  • Strong knowledge of RPM base software management;
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills;
  • Familiar with general Change Process/change control Policy;
  • Ability to evaluate alternatives and determine the best course of action in any
    given troubleshooting scenario;
  • Ability to develop and propose solution designs for new OS and Hardware
    deployments;
  • Knowledge of Intel Hardware running Linux Operating systems;
  • Knowledge of UNIX platforms (i.e. HPUX and/or AIX) considered a plus;
  • Ability to effectively follow and interpret documented or verbal technical
    instructions
