TITLE: Cost Engineer
LOCATION: USA-Houston, TX
DURATION: 1 Year

DESCRIPTION:

PURPOSE:

Participate in the selection of products and hardware systems for cost engineering focus.   Coordinate the establishment of cost ceilings and targets with Quotations, Sales, Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain and any other functions as relevant.   Establish product cost estimates and communicate data on cost drivers to Engineering during the design process During supplier development, strategic sourcing and procurement phases. Support “total cost” decision-making with cost data options. Liaise with product owners regarding long-term product cost estimates, forecasts and cost risks   Assist in the continuous development and maintenance of a cost-engineering data bank.   Identify opportunities, target reductions, & track implementation actions to design costs out of hardware & processes.

 

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Degree in business or technical subject or equivalent work experience.  Commercial, technical or engineering experience preferred   Must have a good understanding of cost estimating , manufacturing processes and Project Management Process as well as thorough knowledge of organizational structure and inter relationships between functions and commercial issues.   Must possess the ability to work commercial issues in a cross-functional, project management role and be able to facilitate interaction between project management, engineering, and operations during pricing reviews. Must demonstrate strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills in order to interact with suppliers and co-workers in a team-based environment. Shows evidence of good organization and planning skills.   Must demonstrate good report writing, editing, and presentation skills. Demonstrates ability to interpret and apply relevant policies and procedures.  PC skills including spreadsheet, presentations, word processing, relational database

 SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITY:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

E/N	Duties and Responsibilities
E	Define product cost targets, ceilings and estimates
E	Carry out gap and value analysis
E	Compile detailed product cost estimates including identification of cost drivers
E	Carry out cost engineering activities in accordance with the Cost Engineering process,  including interface tasks with Engineering Execution process, New Product Development process, Supplier Development  and any other business process as applicable
E	Facilitate and monitor Cost Engineering action plans and verify achievement of cost targets
E	Support implementation of cost targets and confirm product cost
E	Carry out Cost Engineering close out activities
E	Assist in the maintenance of  a Cost Estimating system (including Cost Breakdown System) including a database
E	Assist in the continuous improvement and  maintenance of  a global cost engineering process
E	Prepare reports on progress and close outs
E	Produce presentations suitable for management (monthly, quarterly, and annually) as required, giving planned, actual and forecast costs for ongoing projects and focus products
