Brief Introduction to the Project:
We build web applications built on the .NET Framework with Microsoft ASP .NET MVC as the web framework. Our backend is Sybase 15 (OLTP) and Sybase IQ (Analytics). The entire project team will consist of roughly 15 people including architects, developers, QA, Business Analysts, User Experience analyst and a project manager. We expect to have a single database developer focused on this project, though they will be supported by the application developers and our existing database development team for peripheral activities. We will not be building a new database for this application from scratch. This project is a major upgrade of an existing product already in production. The new vision of the project will require some wholesale changes to specific areas of the database design. Areas that are not undergoing major product shifts will continue to reuse the existing tables already in place.
Job Functions:
• Member of the product team responsible for developing a new version of the company's flagship Imasis product.
• Participate in overall architecture, modeling, design and development of database.
• Understand the product roadmap, application and business domain.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, architects, project management and DBA/DBD teams to develop optimal solutions.
• Review all DDL and DML changes produced by members of the team for performance, logic and standards-compliance.
• Planning and resolution of database capacity and performance issues for new product.
Qualifications:
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and through documentation/diagrams)
• Expert level T-SQL and database design/modeling skills.
• Intermediate level knowledge and understanding of database administration and database infrastructure (this is not a primary skill, but they should have some knowledge in order to better understand and navigate our environment).
• Some experience working with reporting and analytics packages and databases
• Experience with at least two major RBDMS systems (Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL, DB2, MySQL, Postgres)
• Previous experience working in the role of a database developer as part of a project team, specifically on a web project.
• Experience in Windows and Unix environments
